Introduction:

“And the Sun Will Shine” is a poignant ballad by the Bee Gees, featured as the second track on their 1968 album, Horizontal. The song was recorded between July and October 1967, with sessions at Central Sound and Chappell Studios in London. Robin Gibb delivered the lead vocals in a single take, improvising some of the lyrics on the spot.

Musically, the track is characterized by its folk and baroque pop elements, creating a haunting and emotive atmosphere. The arrangement features a blend of orchestral strings and the band’s signature harmonies, underscoring the melancholic yet hopeful lyrics.

Upon its release, “And the Sun Will Shine” was issued as a single in France, backed with “Really and Sincerely,” and reached number 66 on the French charts.

While it didn’t achieve significant commercial success elsewhere, the song has been recognized for its emotional depth and Robin Gibb’s soulful performance.

The song has been covered by several artists, most notably by former Manfred Mann frontman Paul Jones in 1968. His rendition featured an impressive lineup, including Jeff Beck on guitar, Paul McCartney on drums, Paul Samwell-Smith on bass, and Nicky Hopkins on keyboards. Despite the star-studded ensemble, Jones’s version did not chart.
