Introduction:

“I’ll Be Back” is a track by Elvis Presley from the 1966 film Spinout. Written by Sid Wayne and Ben Weisman, two frequent collaborators with Presley, the song is part of the movie’s soundtrack. Presley recorded the track on February 17, 1966, at Radio Recorders in Hollywood. The recording features notable musicians, including guitarists Scotty Moore and Tommy Tedesco, pianist Floyd Cramer, and saxophonist Boots Randolph. The background vocals were provided by The Jordanaires, a group that often worked with Presley.

“I’ll Be Back” reflects the upbeat, rock ‘n’ roll style that characterized much of Elvis’s mid-1960s work, especially in his movie soundtracks. The song fits well with Spinout’s lighthearted tone, as the movie is a romantic comedy where Presley plays a racecar driver and musician. While the movie wasn’t a significant box-office success, its soundtrack, including “I’ll Be Back,” contributed to Presley’s ongoing popularity during this period.

The song was featured prominently in the Spinout album, which was released by RCA Victor in October 1966. Although not a major hit on its own, “I’ll Be Back” is an example of Presley’s prolific output during his Hollywood years and remains a fan favorite for its energetic style.

Lyrics:

“I’ll Be Back”
(from “Spinout” soundtrack)

All right

Well, I’ll be back, yeah, I’ll be back
Like a homesick train on a one-way track
I got to travel and hit the gravel
But I’ll be back, yeah, I’ll be back

Well, I’ll return, I shall return
Don’t cool those lips, we’re gonna see ’em burn
‘Cause I’ll be missin’ your kinda kissin’
But I’ll be back, yeah, I’ll be back

Yeah, there ain’t nobody to tell me stay or go, oh no
And no one tells the four winds where to blow
I’ll be back, I’m comin’ back
Don’t throw away that welcome mat

The door I’m hopin’, will still be open a teeny weenie crack
To your shack
So keep that love light burnin’
But I’ll be back, yeah, I’ll be back

Yeah, there ain’t nobody to tell me stay or go, oh no
And no one tells the four winds where to blow
I’ll be back, I’m comin’ back
Don’t throw away that welcome mat

The door I’m hopin’ will still be open a teeny weenie crack
To your shack
So keep that love light burnin’, I’ll be back
Yeah, I’ll be back
